A landmark decision was made last month as Roe v Wade was overturned. While this is a great victory for the Pro-life community and God, abortion rights will now be determined by state law.
In Oregon, abortion is not only legal, protected by the state constitution, and available, Oregon has created a 15-million-dollar fund that will pay for out-of-state pregnant mothers' travel and accommodations to come to Oregon and abort their pre-born babies.
We are now more than ever in the trenches – standing for LIFE! According to a recent study by Guttmacher Institute, abortions in Oregon alone are expected to rise by 234%. This estimate is even higher for Washington state, also in our service area.
We will continue to provide housing, help, and hope to pregnant mothers in crisis and their unborn babies. We are committed to being a solution for mothers in desperate need of our services throughout the Pacific Northwest and beyond.
Commenting on the June 24th development, President & CEO Leona Bicknese had this to say,
"I was watching the news reports regarding today's monumental Supreme Court decision, and the Hope Line rang. I fumbled to mute the TV but ended up just turning it off to answer the call.
On the phone was a young, scared, pregnant woman who called crying but got off the phone with hope. She just found out she is pregnant and is being kicked out of her home if she doesn't get an abortion. She doesn't want to abort her baby. When I told her about Road 2 Hope Maternity Home, the tears and the emotional quiver in her voice stopped, and she breathed a sigh of relief.
It is a privilege to offer real help and hope to support life by creating a culture of care for women experiencing a crisis pregnancy. This morning, I'm praying for this young mom and many more who need loving help during a difficult time.
We will continue to serve God and this community with faith and love; however, it is so clear, now more than ever, we NEED more capacity.
Please join us in prayer for our country, for pregnant women in crisis, and for guidance in moving forward."
We thank you and all our ministry partners and ask for your continued support in these changing times.
